The orientation week for the batch of 2014 will start on August 16 2010 and will go on till August 20 2010. During this week the freshmen students and their parents will be familliarized with LUMS campus and policies.
Congratulations on your acceptance to LUMS! You have made it through very rigorous competition to join a selected group of students, the Class of 2014!
O-Week, or ‘Orientation-Week’ is designed to make your transition from high school to LUMS as smooth as possible. As summer goes on and the time to leave home for college approaches, you might be wondering what that transition from high school life to college life is going to be like. We know that the thought of this change is exciting, yet it can be stressful and may even be a little scary at times! But don’t worry, that’s why we have O-Week at LUMS. O-Week is the period at LUMS where all of the freshmen students arrive on campus and get oriented to their surroundings.
This year’s O-Week is different from the orientation sessions of the previous years. O-Week has been completely redesigned, to be more in line with the concept of Residential Colleges, a new way of community life at LUMS. The goal of the O-Week is to have you comfortably settled, and build friendships not only amongst yourselves, but with seniors and faculty members, all before the start of classes on the 23rd of August.
To aid in this process, you and your fellow new students will be divided into groups; you will spend much of your O-Week with your group. Each group will be led by a junior or senior student. In addition to the necessities of moving in and getting settled, you will see what LUMS has to offer through various activities planned by your coordinators and advisors. O-Week is an opportunity to meet and get to know many other new students at LUMS. You can also expect to be put on the right track for your academic career and given ample exposure to tons of extra-curricular activities while meeting with different faculty members and your resident mates. You will become acquainted with more wonderful new people than you will know what to do with, learn a load about yourself and others, and just have an altogether unforgettable time.
O-Week is, above all else, the time when you discover that you have a new family away from home. Leaving home is daunting for everyone in some way or another, but O-Week is there to comfort you. Move-in for O-Week will be on Sunday, August 15 (for those living in hostels, morning of 16th for Lahore residents), and after that you’ll be pretty busy with all the fun events and information we have planned for the week. This means that if you want to spend time with your family in Lahore, we recommend that you arrive in the city a few days early. The point is, we promise O-Week is going to be the most fun week of your life, so relax, enjoy the summer. See you in August!
