T2F is excited to announce drop-in yoga classes with Aisha Chapra, on Mondays from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
Aisha Chapra is a yoga teacher and a lecturer at SZABIST University. With a background in social work, counseling and community development, Aisha also volunteers at the women’s prison in Karachi.
Day: Mondays
First Class: 4th April 2011
Time: 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Fee: Rs. 250 per class
No pre-registration required. Just drop in! Do bring along a yoga mat if you have one.
60% of the proceeds from each class will be spent on supplies for women prisoners, many of whom have been languishing in jail for years, awaiting trial dates. If you are not interested in yoga, please just have a look at the list of items that are needed in the women’s prison and consider making a donation.
- Hygiene supplies (soap, toothpaste, shampoo etc)
- Clothes and underwear
- Shoes / Slippers
- Bedsheets
- Towels
- Chairs
- Toys and clothes for the children
Months have gone by and now these women and their children have become a part of my life. And every week they give me something to smile about, a new story to share, and a new lesson to learn, while giving me a consistent dose of inspiration. It’s interesting to see the change that happens once the women start attending the yoga classes. From being a little tough, self-conscious, at times even half joking, they become soft, vulnerable, strong, and hopeful by the end of class”.
